COMMON QUESTIONS

FAQs

The correct extinguishers depend on the fire risks within your premises, including the materials, equipment and activities present. Urban can assess your property and recommend the appropriate extinguisher types, quantities and locations.

There is no single answer for every property. The number required should be determined by your fire risk assessment, the size and layout of the building, the number of floors and the specific hazards present.

Extinguishers should be clearly visible, readily accessible and positioned at identified fire points, commonly near exits and escape routes. They must also be suitable for the risks in the surrounding area.

Portable fire extinguishers should normally receive professional maintenance at least once a year. They should also be checked regularly between services for damage, tampering, loss of pressure or obstruction.

Yes. We can supply, position and commission suitable extinguishers, together with the appropriate identification signage. We can also arrange ongoing servicing to help keep your equipment ready for use.

Yes. We can inspect and service existing portable fire extinguishers, subject to their condition, age and suitability. Any defects, replacements or further work required will be clearly explained.

Anyone expected to use firefighting equipment should receive suitable instruction and training. Extinguishers are intended only for small fires in their earliest stages, and nobody should place themselves at risk attempting to fight a spreading fire.

Old or unserviceable extinguishers should be safely decommissioned and disposed of through an appropriate specialist route. Urban can identify equipment that is no longer suitable and advise on replacement and responsible disposal.
